Two Rivers Paper are keeping the art of specialist handmade rag paper alive in a 400 year old paper mill deep in the heart of the Somerset countryside. Founder and lifelong paper maker, Jim Patterson visited the Jackson’s studio to share his expert knowledge from 50 years the paper industry.
In part one, he shares his own path to becoming a paper maker, the history of Two Rivers and beautifully explains the art of hand making paper ‘the old way’, from milling the fibre to drying, coating and cutting. He also discusses their commitment to using environmentally appropriate methods and the measures Two Rivers have taken to preserve the heritage and practice of hand made paper for generations to come.
In part two, Jim Patterson describes the characteristics of handmade paper, cotton and linen fibres and the importance of sizing in watercolour papers.
