Lawrence: A Legacy of Printmaking and Fine Art Supplies Since 1859
Founded in 1859, Lawrence has been a trusted name in the art world for over 150 years, renowned for its carefully curated selection of high quality materials.
Specialising in engraving and printmaking supplies, Lawrence has provided generations of artists with everything they need for wood engraving, relief printing, etching, lithography, and screen printing.
Originally established in London, Lawrence has moved several times throughout its history, adapting to wartime damage and changing market conditions. The company’s expertise in handmade papers, wood engraving and fine printmaking tools has made it a favourite among celebrated artists, including Eric Gill, Eric Ravilious, and Reynolds Stone, who used a Lawrence-supplied boxwood block to create the masthead of The Times in 1949.
For over a century, Lawrence remained a family-run business, passing through multiple generations of the Lawrence family. In 2024, after more than 165 years in the industry, Jackson’s Art Supplies acquired Lawrence, ensuring the continuation of its legacy while expanding its reach and product range.
Now based in Hove, East Sussex, Lawrence continues to serve the artistic community with a rich selection of traditional and modern materials. Under Jackson’s ownership, Lawrence remains dedicated to its heritage of craftsmanship and expertise, providing artists with the finest tools and supplies to support their creative journey.
