Wood engraving is a form of relief printmaking traditionally used for reproducing illustrations. The image is cut into the end grain of the wood, rather than the side grain used in woodcut. The image is usually small in scale, with the potential for exquisite detail due to the density of the wood. Traditional letterpress inks are most suitable.
