Save money and reduce waste with reusable artwork protection bags from Biyomap and Breen Smartbag. Unlike bubble wrap that tears when you remove the tape so is difficult to use again, an artwork protection bag is a more permanent solution. Smart-looking, tidy artwork protection you can use again and again!
Jackson’s stock two types of artwork protection bags:
Biyomap and Breen Smartbag.
Artwork protection bags provide a strong, sturdy and safe transport solution and dust-free protection for studio storage. They both have velcro flaps to securely close the tops. The Biyomap bags are a thinner material and usually you will need to use the Biyosafe foam corner pieces to insure protection against knocks.
Both types are listed on the website with the actual size of the bag laid flat. To find the bag that best fits your artwork remember that the thickness of your artwork will pull the sides in and the thickness of the bag side seams is also not usable space. The Breen is made from thicker material so more of the inside measurement is lost to the cloth fold. Direct sizing advice is below as it is different for the two brands.
With an artwork protection bag you do not need to use bubble wrap, card and tape to wrap your work, simply slip it into the bag. This is easier and saves time. It also reduces waste as the bubblewrap, card and tape are usually destroyed in the unwrapping process, so discarded. So these bags are eco-friendly and over time save you money. The bags fold flat when empty so are easy to store. Since the Biyopmap bags are a thinner material they take up very little space.
Breen Smartbags
Jackson’s stock the thick, sturdy Breen Smartbags in 10 sizes – the smallest 35x40cm up to the largest 145x200cm. The sizes listed are actual measurements of the bags, so when choosing your size you will need to allow extra space for the depth of your artwork and any foam edges. We estimate that when filled with a deep-profile canvas or frame you will need to take roughly 10cm off the width and the height – for example, a 50x60cm Breen bag will fit a 40x50cm deep-profile canvas. And if you are planning on putting more than one canvas within a bag you will need a correspondingly larger size bag.
- Strong & padded
- Lined with a soft acid-free lining
- Moisture absorbent in the inside to prevent damp problems
- Mildew & Mould repellent
- Water and chemical resistant on the outside
- Insulation properties
- Each material used is a recyclable fabric
- Lightweight so adds little weight to the artwork
Biyomap Bags
Jackson’s stock the sturdy, space-saving Biyomap storage bags in 10 sizes – the smallest 40x50cm to the largest 210x210cm. Each size is easily recognizable because of the colored borders, even when folded. The sizes listed are actual measurements of the bags, so when choosing your size you will need to allow extra space for the depth of your artwork and any foam edges. We estimate that when filled with a deep-profile canvas or frame you will need to take roughly 5cm off the width and the height – for example, a 40x50cm Biyomap bag will comfortably fit a 35x45cm deep-profile canvas. And if you are planning on putting more than one canvas within a bag, you will need a correspondingly larger size bag.
- Biyomap products come with a green label denoting the fact that they are made of 50% recycled material and can, in turn, be entirely recycled.
- Attached to the outside of each Biyomap bag is a transparent A5 folder for holding information and artwork identification.
- Folds flat when empty so is easy to store
- Water-resistant, breathable, and scratchproof
- Acid-free
- Lightweight so adds little weight to the artwork
- The two largest sizes open at both the top and the side
Straps
Three sizes of the Biyomap bags have velcro strips designed for adding the set of two straps to be used as handles: 70×90, 90×110, 110×130.
Biyomap also make 2 long straps for wrapping around artwork to provide a handle.
Tips from Biyomap
Keep the painting hanging on the wall and wrap it with the Biyomap from beneath. Lift the painting and the Biyomap all together from the wall. Ready to go!
Do you have a landscape format painting, just use two Biyomaps. Wrap the painting with one Biyomap on each side and attach with the velcro flaps.
BiyoSafe Foam
For extra protection against knocks these Biyosafe Foam Edge Protectors and Biyosafe Foam Corner Protectors are a great solution. Perfect for use on the artwork you are inserting in the Biyomap bags they also can be used with any brand of bag or on their own. (I once received a delivery of beautifully prepared painting panels that were stacked with the Biyosafe foam edges separating them, very nice.) We stock the edge protectors and the corner protectors in singles and in sets of 4.

Hi,
I am attending a lot of art fairs as
gallerist and artist and yes,
warpping is a hstle.
I have A0 size frames with museum
glass, or 120×80 cm dbonds and others
like 50×70 museum glass frames
(Nielsen Alpha mostly).
Can you recommend the size of bag
incl fitting corner protectors and
the bags do not absorb a shock I
guess, so have to put extra cardboard
or so inside?
Colleagues of mine might also be
interested.
IU have seen aluminum foil protcted
bubble warp bags as well.
Best regards
Axel

Hi Axel
Thanks for your comment. You would need to also take into consideration the depths of the frames when deciding which size is best. My suggestion is to take your dimensions, add on the depth of the frame, and then another 2inches minimum, and use the measurements you have calculated to determine which bags you require.
Many thanks
Lisa

Hi, I am storing a limited edition screen print. I have it between acid free tissue, foam board and a Breen bag. Would you say this is the best way to protect it?
hi Tricia,
That sounds like an excellent way to store a screenprint. The boards will keep the print flat, the tissue will protect from any unknown impurities and the bag will allow for a constant and even temperature/humidity.
Many thanks
Lisa
