Schmincke has enjoyed a consistently high reputation for their artist materials for over four generations. You may have enjoyed working with any one (or more!) of their impressive ranges – everything from watercolours, oils, acrylics and pastels to printmaking colours.
Markus Baumgart, Head of Sales and Marketing at Schmincke, visited the Jackson’s Studio and spoke to us about the company’s fruitful history, how production is kept at such a consistently high level, and the importance of both tradition and innovation when it comes to making artist paints.

I absolutely, thoroughly enjoyed listening to
Markus Baumgart on the Schmincke
company, its history and products. I can’t get
enough about pigments and how things are
developed and made. I would’ve happily
listened to even more detail and would’ve
welcomed some footage of products being
made in the Schmincke factory.
It sounds like a fabulous place to work and
I’m going to have to try their products now.

What an utterly amazing company. From A to Z in products, ethics, ethos and sustainability going forward – so much to be so proud of and most especially when we look at the world of 2022 and all the harm from which we need to recover. Thanks so very much. PS: Watercolours are a joy!
