Info

Schmincke Supergranulating Watercolour Paints are an extension of their highly popular Horadam professional range. The distinctive feature of this range is that the paints are based on pigments that have a natural tendency to granulate. By combining two or more pigments in one paint, they complement and enhance the colour in combinations and create an incredible texture on the surface of the paper.

The paints are bound with Kordofan gum arabic from the southern Sahara. Due to the natural source of the binder, the gum arabic does tend to differ slightly year on year. Schmincke continually test the ingredient and the best of the batch is selected to ensure the highest quality is achieved. This means paint which has dried onto your palette can be easily re-wetted and painted with again.

I just purchased Haze Pink, Tundra Pink, Tundra Violet, Tundra Blue and Shire Blue. Oh, my goodness me! I am blown away by just how beautiful these paints are. Pricey, yes, but worth every penny. One day (soon I hope!) I will buy more to add to my collection.

If I could give this more than 5 stars, I would. It’s a beautiful rich, Beaufort grey when you use it in small areas but it really comes into all its glory when used in larger washes. The separation f the pigments is just stunning and gives wonderfully expressive results.

Disappointed with this one. I was so hopeful for a vibrant granulating red but it’s much more Earth toned than the online images show it to be.

A colour that is very granulating when mixed with other colour. the colour though sets very very hard if you leave to dry on a palette and very hard to rewet, then becomes weak, so you have to scrub at it to get any pigment. I bought the Volcano set in the end, so try a smaller tube to see how I get on with mixing this colour.
