Milliput is an epoxy putty used by craftspeople and modellers, as well as for household and restoration applications.
It is available in a range of types that cater for different applications. Each grade comes in a pack containing two 56.7g sticks, with instructions for preparation and use. The two sticks have a long shelf life, but once mixed, the putty is initially soft and highly adhesive, then gradually hardens. The speed of hardening depends on temperature. At normal temperatures (20–25 °C), Milliput becomes rock hard within three to four hours. Applying heat can reduce the setting time to a few minutes.
After setting, Milliput continues to cure and is fully cured after a period equal to the original setting time at the same temperature. Once fully cured, it can be machined, drilled, tapped, turned, filed, sawn, sanded, and painted. It can be sanded and painted immediately after setting, although wearing eye protection during this process is advisable.
Milliput is a strong adhesive and will bond materials such as wood, brick, cement, metals, concrete, plastics, and glass, either to itself or to each other. It is not intended for use as a thin-layer adhesive and should not be used where a paste or thin glue is required. Milliput will set underwater and is heat resistant up to 130 °C.
Shelf life
Milliput should be stored in cool, dry conditions, and bags should be resealed after use. When stored correctly, it should remain workable for approximately two years.
