Review

I'd like to update my older review: I contacted Caran d'Ache concerning why the 6b Grafstone seemed lighter than their 6b Grafwood. The representative informed me that it was due to the width of the lead: That is a thinner lead transfers more force at the point where the pencil meets the paper, creating a darker line because more graphite is laid down. A thicker lead thus requires more pressure, because it is more blunt. Therefore, when attempting to create a dark line with the Grafstone pencil, it appears that the graphite is being used up quicker because more pressure is needed. At least that's how I understood it.

I was expecting the same quality of graphite as in the Grafwood pencils, but this graphite stick (pencil) is not as dark as the Grafwood 6b. I have also noticed that Grafwood 6b lead (the lead inside the wood casing) seems to last longer than this Grafstone pencil--that is comparing sharpened tips of equivalent lengths. So, though this Grafstone pencil will last longer than a Grafwood pencil (because there is more graphite), it appears that it is softer without being darker than the 6b Grafwood pencil. Hmmmm. I won't be buying these again.
