Paynes Grey is made using a mix of Ivory Black, Ultramarine and Iron Oxide Yellow pigments. It creates a blue-black that is often used by painters in place of black. Its blue undertones are similar to Prussian Blue. When mixed in small quantities with White, Yellow Ochre and Alizarin Crimson it can make a gentle fleshy hue.
