Mediocre watercolor paints and sub-standard quality control
Old Holland makes beautiful oil paints, perhaps one of the very best, and I use this brand in my own oil painting works. However, their watercolor is below par. i won’t recommend this product because of following reasons: 1) slow activation of pigments overall. Two colors never fully activated, and would only yield very thin colors. 2) paints feel dry and scratchy. Doesn’t layer well. I’d recommend Holbein and Schmincke over Old Holland. 3) the box itself is very roughly made with sharp unfinished edges. The pan containers are made of cheap plastic , and one even broke in half inside its wrappers. This is a small problem , however, it shows that Old Holland doesn’t care about their watercolor line, At least not as much as their oil paints. A message to the company, Even if you are not a watercolor expert and could only make mediocre watercolors, you can at least use higher quality containers. It’s not that hard to spend One more dollar on a better metal tin And stop charging top price for your watercolors. Price them accordingly.
