Info

Named after the celebrated illustrator Maurice Sendak, the Sendak Artist Roll will keep your collection of pens, brushes, tools, sketchbooks and journals organised. Ideal for the studio or working en plein air, it features an array of pockets large and small, including a zippable section for smaller items such as sharpeners, erasers and lead refills. Made from waxed duck canvas, it folds away securely using the robust leather strap with antique steel buckle.

Peg and Awl was founded by husband and wife team Margaux and Walter Kent. The Philadelphia-based makers take inspiration from the history and craftsmanship of found treasures, as well as the effect of the passage of time on abandoned objects. The beautifully handcrafted products are made from natural and often salvaged materials, making each piece unique and a perfect addition to the artists’ studio or plein air toolkit.

My grab and go kit

I was gifted this and I love its versatility for having art supplies ready for outdoor or urban sketching adventures. The proportions are very well thought out. And the three sizes of pocket allow for a wide selection of supplies. Apart from travel brushes I have found a number of ordinary watercolour brushes which will fit, The Peg & Awl wooden palettes provide a good protector for a couple of my favourite brushes which I nestle next to it in the pocket. This is a sturdy item and should last. It is waxed a bit like a Barbour for outdoor protection from damp etc. I’m able to carry a good range of mixed media supplies, kept well organised and protected. I appreciate the work that’s gone into making this, and the ethics behind the brand.
