The Uni Kuru Toga Roulette Mechanical Pencil is excellent quality and features an ingenious lead rotation mechanism to ensure a uniform wearing of the lead.
As you use a regular mechanical pencil, the lead wears down on one side, forming a slanted wedge-shaped tip. Each time you put the lead to paper you end up using a different lead surface (pointy, flat, wide, thin) depending on how you hold the pencil. This can cause dramatic variations in line thickness as you write or draw. The Kuru Toga eliminates this problem by continually rotating the pencil lead - you always end up with an even stroke width when using it.
This 0.5mm mechanical pencil has a fixed lead sleeve and a small window to demonstrate the rotating action. You can see the logo on the centre gear rotating each time the tip is pressed to the writing surface. The lead rotates approximately 9 degrees with each contact - around 40 touches will rotate the lead completely.
There's an adjustable eraser under the push-button and the pencil is supplied fitted with HB Uni Nano Dia lead. It also comes with spare leads.
