Sanguine is one of the world's oldest drawing instruments. It is made from iron ore (hematite) and produces a distinctive reddish brown color. These irregular pieces can be shaped into sticks, pointed, and used to draw on the paper.
The stone feels slightly waxy, blends well with the fingers and erases almost completely.

This product produced excellent depth of tone - there was a very slight grittiness in some pieces but it was less than I had anticipated and was not any great problem - it is very satisfying using natural , unrefined materials - I would recommend any artist to give these natural materials a try - you might be pleasantly surprised.
