Koh-I-Noor: Quality Drawing Materials Since 1790

Koh-I-Noor has been a popular name in the world of drawing and writing materials for over two centuries.

Founded in 1790, the Czech brand has a rich heritage of producing high quality pencils, pastels, and inks that are trusted by artists, designers, and writers alike. Koh-I-Noor's commitment to innovation and excellence is reflected in its extensive range of products, which are known for their reliability, precision, and performance.

Koh-I-Noor was founded in 1790 by Joseph Hardtmuth (1758–1816), who was from Austria. In 1802, the company patented the first pencil lead made from kaolin (clay) and graphite. Koh-I-Noor moved to České Budějovice, now in the Czech Republic, in 1848.

Koh-I-Noor is perhaps best known for its iconic graphite pencils, which are crafted to deliver a smooth, consistent line with excellent control. Their pencils range from hard, fine points ideal for detailed work to softer grades perfect for shading and sketching.

In addition to graphite, Koh-I-Noor offers a variety of coloured pencils, pastels and charcoals, each designed to provide rich pigmentation and easy application. Their Polycolor pencils, in particular, are highly regarded for their vibrant colours and smooth laydown, making them a favourite among artists and illustrators.

Beyond pencils, Koh-I-Noor's product range includes high quality mechanical pencils and sundries, offering a comprehensive selection for drawing and sketching.

By maintaining a focus on quality materials and precision manufacturing, Koh-I-Noor continues to be a trusted choice for artists seeking dependable and versatile drawing tools.
