An Introduction to Printmaking
From its centuries-old tradition of reproduction and communication, fine art printmaking has developed into a primary means of expression.
Artists can explore the creative potential of so many exciting techniques, from the quick, graphic statement of a simple linocut to the wonderful velvety depths of an aquatint etching. There are so many forms of printmaking you can engage with, all of them offering rich possibilities.
Artists are always innovating, and boundaries are being pushed back all the time, with major breakthroughs in less harmful methods of working established in the last few decades. We will endeavour to reflect these new developments in the products we offer and add to our already established lines Cranfield Caligo, Akua, Lascaux, and Permaset. Of course, we will continue to build on the best of traditional materials, which when used in conjunction with a low-toxic studio practice, represent tried and tested reliability and flexibility.
At its most fundamental, the thrill of lifting the corner of the paper to reveal your print has never really gone away.
