Acrylic

Acrylic is a fast-drying medium, formulated to possess a wide range of properties. Acrylics are available in more varieties than any other fine art medium - this includes soft and heavy body paints, spray paints, acrylic inks, acrylic gouache, screenprint inks, and more. We stock a wide range of colours and viscosities, individually or as part of great value acrylic paint sets. This includes ranges from Golden, Liquitex, AV, Winsor & Newton, and Jackson’s Artist Acrylic Paint.

Acrylic is great for mixed media artists, with a water-mixable formula that adheres to many surfaces and creates a stable ground for almost all wet and dry media. Plus, with no solvents required for painting or clean-up, it’s a convenient choice for those painting at home.

Acrylics can be painted on to any surface - wood, canvas, paper or metal. Our surfaces department presents a multitude of artist grade substrates. Acrylic gesso and primer offer the best surface preparation for your painting.

Mediums, gels and pastes give you even more flexibility. Add these to your paints to speed drying times, slow drying times, thicken your paint, thin the paint down or add texture. If your paint isn’t behaving quite as you want it to there’ll be a medium out there to help.

Acrylic brushes traditionally have a longer handle than watercolour brushes, allowing the painter to achieve more movement and stand back from the easel when painting. We sell brushes from leading makers including Da Vinci, Isabey, Silver, Escoda, and our own Jackson’s brand. Brushes for acrylic painting should keep their shape and have good spring for years, so long as they are looked after with a brush cleaner. Tools such as palette knives can also offer exciting new ways to apply paint.
