Etching is a form of intaglio printmaking where acid bites into unmasked areas of a metal plate, creating grooves that hold ink. The inked plate is then pressed onto paper using a printing press, transferring the design under high pressure. Etching inks are thick and tacky due to their high pigment and oil content.
