The A. Gallo Naturale 36 Palette Watercolour Set of 36 Half Pans contains the complete collection of colours made from exquisite earth, mineral, and plant-based pigments. They have been sourced from the Mediterranean basin and the forests of Sumatra to the mountains of Chile and the volcanos of Iceland. Many of the colours in this Naturale collection are granulating. For bold results, these unique natural colours perform best when pre-wet with a drop of water.

Two of the most exclusive new additions to this palette are Stil De Grain Light, a surprisingly bright, transparent yellow lake pigment made from Buckthorn berries, and Han Purple, a granulating and regal purple historic pigment first created in ancient China over 2,500 years ago.

Five of the colours included in this extensive palette are made with Iwa-Enogu Japanese mineral pigments. These pigments have undergone a special elutriation process, achieving precise and uniform particle sizes. The particles of nearly identical size and shape offer exceptionally clear colours with a unique texture. Orange Iron Oxide and Tourmaline are made with Iwa-Enogu single pigments.

The historic trio of Cinabro Hue, Azurite Hue and Malachite Hue are made using an Enogu pigment base of Peach Agate, Sodalite and Amazonite respectively. The stone pigment base maintains a mineral quality in these copper and mercury-free hues.

Other highlights include genuine Lapis Lazuli, an extra fine, intense deep blue colour made from the semi-precious stone used in historical painting. Indigo Genuine is an ancient colourant made from the fermented grey-green leaves and flowering stalks of over 30 related plant species, including the medicinal indigo shrub Indigofera Tinctoria native to India. Rose Madder Genuine is a transparent red pigment made from the root of the Rubia Tinctorum plant. Madder was used in ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome for dyeing textiles and, to some extent, making pigments.

Other notable colours in this palette are Lilac, a fresh, granulating delicate purple and a single pigment Van Dyck Brown made from real German Lignite. Icelandic Red Earth is a semi-transparent pigment with a subtly variegated colour display of plum and red ochre tones. This pigment was collected by David Kremer and landscape painter Peter Lang near the volcano Snaefellsjoekull in Western Iceland.

A. Gallo watercolours are available as individual half pans and in special themed sets. Each half pan is wrapped in watercolour paper with a hand painted sample brushed over it. The watercolour sets are beautifully packaged with original marbled paper by Florentine artisan workshop Giulio Giannini e Figlio and a colour chart printed on Arches watercolour paper. The colours are made by hand in very small batches. The watercolours are cadmium, cobalt, lead, and mercury-free.

Presented in an elegant gift box, the Naturale 36 set includes a watercolour tin with two mixing surfaces, a colour chart printed on Arches watercolour paper, and a traditional size 0 mop brush by Tintoretto.
