The A. Gallo Sinopia Palette Metal Tin Set of 12 Half Pans is a special edition assortment of natural Mediterranean tones inspired by classical drawing traditions.

By nature beautiful and harmonic, this timeless palette includes foundational colours for painting and drawing - ideal for painting architecture, nature studies, figure drawing, and urban sketching. The historical ochres, siennas, umbers and neutrals included, compose a limited palette often used for preparatory, unfinished and informal studies, freeing the artist to work without the weight of perfection and finality.

This collection takes its name from Sinopia, an ancient red-brown earth pigment imported to Europe from Cappadocia through the port of Sinop, a Greek colony on the Black Sea. Sinopia was famously used in the Renaissance to make the preparatory drawing for frescoes directly onto the wall. These drawings became simply known as Sinopie.

A. Gallo Handmade Watercolours have been developed using a contemporary approach to historical colour. Made by hand in Assisi, the watercolours are crafted according to a traditional recipe of raw pigment, gum arabic, local honey, rosemary essential oil, and a wetting agent. This artisanal process creates a very pigmented and luminous paint that activates beautifully when wet. The binder is made from pure lumps of Kordofan gum arabic from the Acacia Senegal tree dissolved in distilled water and filtered to remove any impurities. Honey from Umbria is added as a humectant, and rosemary essential oil is added for its natural antifungal properties.

A. Gallo watercolours are available as individual half pans and in special themed sets. Each half pan is wrapped in watercolour paper with a hand painted sample brushed over it. The watercolour sets are beautifully packaged with original marbled paper by Florentine artisan workshop Giulio Giannini e Figlio and a colour chart printed on Arches watercolour paper. The colours are made by hand in very small batches. The watercolours are cadmium, cobalt, lead, and mercury free.

Presented in an elegant gift box, the Sinopia set includes a watercolour tin with two mixing surfaces, a colour chart printed on Arches watercolour paper, and a synthetic size 6 Kazan series 1327 pocket brush by Tintoretto. This set contains the following colours: Titanium White (PW6), Gold Ochre (PY43), Raw Sienna (PY43) Burnt Sienna Mt. Amiata (PBr7), Venetian Red (PR102), Morellone (PR101), Ultramarine Blue Dark (PB29), Verdaccio (PBr7, PBk11), Green Umber (PBr8), Burnt Umber Brownish (PBr8), Burnt Umber Dark (PBr7), and Roman Black Earth (PBk11).
