This is a book that needs to be returned to several times in order to fully appreciate the advice being offered. Practical tips are there in abundance – brushstrokes (and their possible uses), colour mixing (“with these six paints it is possible to make just about any colour, whether bright or neutral.” p.49), and in addition the use of texture, tone, shape and scale to express yourself as an artist. When you get blocked for ideas or just can’t become motivated to paint, then a read through the last chapter should help. But read it more than once because Bridget certainly packs in her advice based on her own experience.
