Liquitex Black Gesso is a pre-mixed black acrylic ground used to prepare painting surfaces and add a striking black background to your work.

Liquitex's Black Gesso contains a blend of pigments to give a matt black, opaque base. The surface adds a high level of tooth for maximum colour adhesion and stability.

The gesso stiffens your canvases and creates the optimum absorbency for paint application, providing a professional standard, archival base to help maintain the longevity of your work. It is also a suitable surface for preliminary charcoal or pencil drawings.

Suitable for use with acrylic and oil paints/mediums, graphite, pencil and charcoal, and chalk and oil pastels. You can use Liquitex Black Gesso on canvas, hardboard and paper, plus wood and non-oily, porous supports.

Application:

Use undiluted or thin up to 25% with water. When thinning more than 25% use an equal mixture of water and matt Medium to thin gesso. If using as a base for oils, apply 2-4 coats and sand between applications.
