Founded in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 1862, LUKAS has been a trusted name in fine art materials for over 160 years, offering professional quality oil paints, acrylics, watercolour paint, mediums, and more.

Named after St. Lukas, the patron saint of painters, the brand has built a strong reputation, becoming a staple for artists who demand reliability and performance. Lukas have always maintained a close relationship with The Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf, collaborating with local artists to develop and refine its product range. This direct feedback has played a crucial role in shaping the LUKAS collection, ensuring that each paint and medium meets the evolving needs of creative professionals.

In 1964, LUKAS was among the first European manufacturers to introduce acrylic paints, launching LUKAS Cryl, which remains a popular choice for acrylic painters today. Over the years, the company amassed an extensive archive of paint recipes, price lists, brochures, and material samples, which in 2018 was permanently loaned to the Conservation Centre Düsseldorf (Restaurierungszentrum Düsseldorf) for preservation and research.
