Pith: Beautiful and Sustainable Paper Products
Pith® is a Northumberland-based design and manufacturing studio dedicated to producing high quality, sustainable paper materials for artists and creators.
Founded by Andrew Hardie and Liam Goward in 2020, Pith embodies a commitment to craftsmanship, quality, and environmental responsibility. Their products prioritise functionality and minimal ecological impact.
From their beachside studio in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Pith has developed a vision rooted in three core principles: quality, usability, and responsible production.
Every Pith product is carefully designed. Pith’s dedicated team conceptualises, crafts, and finishes each product by hand, ensuring consistency and quality across their line of sketchbooks and other materials. This hands-on approach also enables Pith to carefully control its environmental footprint, from sourcing sustainably certified raw materials to operating its facility on renewable energy. Manufacturing waste is recycled or reused, while eco-friendly packaging ensures minimal impact on the environment.
By pursuing sustainable practices, Pith offers artists tools they can trust, knowing that every sketchbook aligns with a shared responsibility to care for our planet.
‘One thing that has always attracted me to any brand is acknowledging its environmental impact. As a regular sketchbooker, I don’t like to think about the amount of paper, pen cases, bottles and unfriendly ingredients I go through whilst making my work, so Pith’s dedication to sourcing the most sustainable materials possible was important to me.
The first thing that drew me to Pith Sketchbooks is the open binding, which allows them to lie completely flat. I often work across a double-page spread – as an illustrator I think of the page design, and in my personal work I love a landscape. For anyone that draws, this doubles the amount of space to create an easily readable piece of art, and you don’t need to think about the gutter.’
