Kaninchenhautleim ist ein traditioneller Leim, der zum Leimen (Sizen) von Leinwand vor dem Ölgrundieren sowie als Klebstoff für Vergoldungen und Holzarbeiten eingesetzt werden kann. Es wird empfohlen, den Leim anzusetzen, indem er in Wasser gelöst wird, das knapp unter dem Siedepunkt liegt (60–63°C). Außerdem wird er häufig bei der Herstellung von Gesso und als Versiegelung verwendet.
