Canson: Trusted by Artists from Van Gogh to Warhol
Canson has been synonymous with fine art paper for over 450 years, trusted by notable artists such as Van Gogh, Degas, Picasso, Dalí, and Warhol.
Established in 1557 by the Montgolfier family in Annonay, France, Canson has continuously pushed the boundaries of papermaking through its dedication to tradition and innovation.
Canson is known for its quality and craftsmanship across a wide range of papers, catering to the diverse needs of artists. From their popular watercolour paper and drawing pads to surfaces for digital printing, Canson ensures artists of all disciplines have access to the finest materials. Their papers are made with sustainability at the forefront, using environmentally responsible practices without compromising on performance.
One of Canson’s greatest innovations was the invention of tracing paper in 1809, which revolutionised architectural and artistic workflows. The creation of Montval, designed by the famous painter Gaspard Maillol, nephew of the sculptor Aristide Maillol, further solidified Canson’s reputation for creating specialist papers.
Today, Canson continues to foster creativity worldwide. They maintain a deep connection to the art world, collaborating with artists and designers to create top quality papers while remaining committed to sustainability.
