Essdee: Inspiring Printmakers with Fine British Craftsmanship
Essdee has been specialising in lino printing and Scraperboard products since 1942. Combining a rich heritage with a commitment to sustainability and innovation, Essdee continues to inspire the next generation of artists and printmakers with its high quality tools and materials.
The story of Essdee began during World War II when Stanley Dixon, a Sheffield-based commercial artist, formulated his own Scraperboard after supply disruptions from Austria. The result was a top quality Scraperboard, essential for newspaper illustration, that gained immense popularity among professional artists.
Dixon’s initials lent the brand its name, Essdee, and his innovation became the foundation for a company that would continue to grow its Scraperboard and printmaking tools to professionals around the world.
Essdee’s range of printing and Scraperboard products brings the art of printmaking to a wide audience. With user-friendly materials, safety features and creative kits, Essdee has made this traditional craft more accessible for artists of all ages and abilities.
Essdee Scraperboard remains a popular surface with illustrators and professional artists around the world. Essdee is also dedicated to protecting the environment and reducing its carbon footprint. These efforts earned Essdee a nomination for the 2021 Best Sustainable Craft Company Award by Craft Business.
