Renaissance Workshop Materials : Silverpoint Stylus : Maestro

The Maestro Silverpoint Stylus is a traditional silverpoint drawing tool from Renaissance Workshops Materials. This silverpoint stylus is perfect for obtaining fine lines and creating a detailed drawing on a gesso or primer prepared surface.

Each Maestro stylus is unique and made by hand in London in the craft tradition of Medieval and Renaissance Europe. Because they are forged, shaped, pointed, and polished by hand, each stylus may differ in length, even though they contain the same amount of silver bullion. The silverpoint range from Renaissance Workshop Materials is forged from Sterling Silver Bullion, which is 92.5% pure silver, and the silver is alloyed with other metals like copper. The stylus is hallmarked by hand at The Goldsmiths’ Company Assay Office in London.

The design of the Maestro and the smaller Artista stylus is based on the silverpoint stylus depicted in Jan Gossart’s St Luke Drawing the Virgin c. 1515.
