Ferric Chloride solution is a corrosive salt for etching.Now widely recognised as the safest and best perfoming etchant for copper plate, especially when used in conjunction with citric acid to make 'Edinburgh Etch' (© F.K. 1997). Ferric chloride can be used in vertical etching tanks as pioneered by Kieth Howard or in flat trays, image side up, if made into Edinburgh Etch. Guidlines for use can be found on our PDF:
