Gamblin Cold Wax Medium is a dense paste made from naturally white, pure beeswax. It increases the body of oil colours, giving them a rich, matt finish and enhancing their ability to hold expressive brushmarks and textured impasto. Its ‘short’ handling quality allows for clean breaks from brush or knife, preserving sharp peaks and tactile detail in your work.

This versatile medium can be mixed with oil colours to create translucency reminiscent of encaustic surfaces or used on its own as a matt varnish. It also reduces gloss to a matt finish with other Gamblin mediums and Gamvar. Ideal for experimental techniques, Cold Wax Medium works beautifully with tools like palette knives, brayers, stencils, and textural materials such as bubble wrap or mesh, offering limitless creative possibilities.
