Info
Economy Shina Japanese Plywood is made with a shina plywood veneer and a lauan wood core. It is the most widely used plywood in Japan for Mokuhanga techniques (Japanese water-based woodblock printing).
Shina 'Tilia Japonica' is a sustainable timber grown in the colder parts of Japan and is renowned for its fine, almost undiscernible grain. It is manufactured into shina plywood that is soft and easy to carve and is favoured by printmakers for its ability to hold detail and sharp edges during the printmaking process. This easy-to-cut plywood also works well with oil-based inks and Western-style woodcut tools. It is worth noting that shina plywood is not guaranteed to be without some internal voids. These can be seen when the ply is held up to a strong light so you can plan your images with this in mind.
