Founded in 1967 by Han Bok Rin, ShinHan Art began with a vision to revitalize Korea’s art scene during a period of growth and recovery after the Korean War.
Inspired by the country’s transformation, ShinHan sought to provide high quality Korean art materials to artists and students, replacing the imported paints that had become commonplace. With a passion for innovation and education, ShinHan produced its first opaque poster color in 1973, which soon became a staple in Korean schools and remains prominent in education today.
Through the 1980s, ShinHan expanded to produce a full range of artist materials, including oil, gouache, and watercolor paints. In 1996, they introduced their PWC premium watercolor, crafted with meticulous attention to lightfastness, transparency, and granulation to meet the needs of professional artists.
ShinHan’s commitment to innovation continued with the launch of the alcohol-based TOUCH Marker, which became an industry favorite among designers and illustrators for its precision and vibrant colors.
