Turner Colour Works: Pioneering Japanese Colour Since 1946
Turner Colour Works are a renowned Japanese paintmaker based in Osaka, Japan. They produce excellent quality paints and an array of mediums and primers.
Established in 1946, the company began as Marudai Industries Ltd. In 1947, they rebranded to Turner Colour Chemical Ltd. and started manufacturing their own paints, launching their first Watercolour Paint and Pentex, a paint designed for crafts.
In 1958, the company adopted the name Turner Colour Works Ltd., marking a new chapter in their commitment to excellence in art materials. Turner has been at the forefront of paint innovation in Japan, introducing Alpha Color in 1963. This was the country's first resin paint and set the stage for future advancements.
By 1971, Turner launched Design Gouache. The innovation continued in 1982 with the introduction of Acryl Gouache, an opaque paint that combines the best qualities of acrylic and gouache. This paint remains popular with artists and designers for its vibrant hues and smooth application.
In 1997, Turner Colour Works expanded their reach by collaborating with Golden, known for their high quality acrylic paints. This partnership introduced Golden Acrylics to the Japanese market, broadening the horizons for Japanese artists with access to professional grade acrylic paints.
Continuing their tradition of innovation, Turner launched the Acryl Gouache Japanesque Series and the Acryl Gouache Pearl Series in 2002. These ranges offer unique colours and finishes inspired by traditional Japanese aesthetics. The 18 Pearl series colours can be found within the Acryl Gouache range.
Turner Colour Works continues to be celebrated for their rich pigmentation, smooth consistency, and ability to inspire creativity in both professionals and beginners around the world. With over seven decades of experience, Turner remains dedicated to supporting artists by delivering exceptional products that blend traditional Japanese craftsmanship with modern technology.
