Info
Expressive Charcoal Landscapes with Wendy is a one-day drawing workshop on 3rd October 2026 at Jackson’s Studio One at Griffin Mill. Located in Thrupp, near Stroud, in Gloucestershire, Griffin Mill is an atmospheric converted Victorian mill in the heart of the stunning Cotswolds. All abilities welcome.
Building up layers and tone through charcoal, you will explore everything that makes up a landscape, whether coastal or countryside. Create textures and develop atmospheric scenes, working with broad, loose marks alongside more detailed drawing as you build towards finished landscapes to take home.
You will learn how to use charcoal to create dynamic drawings, exploring tonal values from bright seas to moody lanes, sunny fields, or stormy skies. Discover a range of techniques to describe land or sea, from atmospheric skylines and tree shapes to the surface textures of fields, water, or roads.
What You Will Learn:
Learn about the different types of charcoal.
Explore tonal charcoal effects.
Develop mark-making techniques for land, trees, water, and sky.
Draw light using erasers.
Build layered effects to create depth and atmosphere.
Recommended Equipment List:
The shop will be open from 9am, so you will have time to purchase materials before the workshop.
