Princeton: Redefining Brushes and Tools for Artists

Princeton Artist Brush Company are a leader in crafting high quality brushes and painting tools for artists. Their wide range has been designed for all mediums, including oil, acrylic, watercolour paint, gouache, and more.

Founded by Howard Kaufman in Princeton, New Jersey, the company began with a mission to make innovative, affordable, and reliable tools for artists. Princeton’s dedication to meeting the needs of artists is evident in their exceptional ranges, including Princeton Velvetouch, Aqua Elite, Neptune Brushes, and the revolutionary Princeton Catalyst Wedges and Blades.

Collaborating with Naohide Takamoto, a master brushmaker from Japan’s renowned Takamoto family, Princeton developed their flagship Series 4050 synthetic sable brushes. This range set a new standard for synthetic brush performance. Princeton have continued to innovate, introducing cutting-edge technologies like Neptune™, Velvetouch™, and Catalyst™ Polytip Brushes, which offer excellent control and precision for a wide range of media.

Princeton’s Catalyst Wedges and Blades, crafted from heat-resistant silicone, are ideal for heavy-bodied paints, as well as encaustics and clay. This makes them a favourite for both traditional and experimental artists. These versatile tools are designed to push the boundaries of creativity, offering durability and performance unmatched by traditional brushes.

Now based in Appleton, Wisconsin, Princeton Artist Brush Company remains committed to providing artists with the best tools to express their creativity. From their versatile brushes to innovative tools like the Catalyst Wedge, Princeton continues to inspire and support the art community with their passion for quality and innovation.

‘One of the things that enticed me to this range in particular was the non-glare ferrule. It is like Princeton knew I wanted this brush for painting a large artwork outside! The stiffness of the brush also makes it perfect for big sweeping motions, but equally small delicate markings.

The brush also holds water and bounces back into shape very well, which I find very helpful when you’re in the midst of your creative flow and you don’t have to worry about water or the disconfigured shape of the brush.’
