Old Holland: Colourmaking Mastery Since 1664
Old Holland has been creating some of the finest artists’ paints since 1664, making it one of the oldest paint manufacturers in the world.
Old Holland proudly upholds the legacy of the Dutch Old Masters and traditional colourmaking techniques. Originating from the vibrant Dutch Golden Age, the company was founded by the Guild of Saint Luke in The Hague, where artists and colourmakers collaborated to perfect paint recipes passed down through generations.
Under the leadership of Willem and Albert Roelofs in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the company amassed extensive knowledge of pigments and paint formulations, earning the esteemed ‘Scheveningen paint’ label synonymous with superior quality.
Theo de Beer’s stewardship from 1982 revitalised Old Holland, introducing Classic Oil Colours in 1985 and Classic Watercolours in 1987. Both are renowned for their exceptionally high pigmentation and colour strength.
Continuing its tradition of developing high quality paints, Old Holland launched New Masters Classic Acrylic in 2005. The range features a diverse choice of lightfast and vibrant acrylic colours, which are known for their minimal colour shift between wet and dry.
For painters who value tradition and excellence, Old Holland remains a top choice. Trusted by generations of artists, from the Dutch Old Masters to the current generation of new masters.
