Kaweco: German Craftsmanship in Writing Instruments Since 1883
Kaweco are a storied German brand known for its expertly crafted writing instruments. Their roots trace back to 1883 when Carl Luce and Friedrich Enßlen founded the Heidelberger Federhalter Fabrik (Heidelberg Dip Pen Factory) in Heidelberg.
In 1909, Kaweco introduced its first safety fountain pen. It was patented and marked a pivotal innovation in pen design. This success led to expanded distribution and increased visibility for the Kaweco brand.
The name ‘Kaweco’ and its iconic three-part logo were officially adopted after the company was acquired in 1929 by Knust, Woringen & Grube of Wiesloch, makers of the Aurumia brand. Under the leadership of Friedrich Grube, Kaweco continued to thrive for the next three decades.
Production paused during World War II, but resumed in 1945, marked by the adoption of the German Shepherd as a new emblem. Over the years, Kaweco has maintained its legacy of combining tradition with modern appeal, collaborating with influential brands such as Supreme New York and Microsoft to bring unique pen designs to a broader audience.
Today, Kaweco remains celebrated for its dedication to German engineering, timeless design, and writing comfort, continuing to inspire writers, designers, and artists worldwide.
