Urban art

This is one of my favorite flip books to use for my outdoor urban arts, sketching and watercolor group.

This is a great little pad! I use it for watercolour and some pen and wash, though took some practice for me for my penwork to look decent enough on this. I've been taking it with me on journeys (train and tube) to sketch and paint. Robust, durable. I'm a watercolour-learner (ie not an expert!) but I've found this pad to be a very good alternative to cold pressed cotton paper.

I've used Bockingford for a number of years now, and the block pads have always been my favourite for the detailed wildlife paintings I enjoy doing. Great lifting off properties as well.

I'm happy with this purchase, although I was unclear whether the paper contains any cotton... it didn't appear obvious in the product description. I now know that it is 100% cellulose... that's OK, given the price. From what I've done so far, the paper is quite nice to work with... I am a beginner, so my expectations are vague :)

I was disappointed with this paper - It's lovely and smooth - good to draw on, but it buckles very badly as soon as water colour is introduced. I won't take any amount of water. also - i use masking tape to apply a border around anything i paint and it took the surface of the paper off.

Feefo

Review

It's very textured but because it's 300gsm, one can play about with it: rinsing an area off if one has over painted it. Also, addding other media such as oil pastels, they will sit in the groves of the 'rough' surface and create a different texture. Once the paper dries, it will return to flatness. However, it's a bit too textured and I think 'not' pressed will be my next purchase.

I was able to make an informed decision when buying this pad, as the product details helped me to select a product to suit my requirements (ie a surface suited to intricate pen/ink work). Dispatch was extremely quick and arrived within 2 days of ordering. Very well packaged. Great shopping experience, and of course am thrilled with my pad! I've found my permanent art supplier!!

Review

Bockingford is one of the definitive Watercolour papers and rather less expensive than the rag based papers like Saundsrs Waterford. The NOT surface is a nice blend of texture and toughness, with both sides of the paper the same texture Bockingford is ideal for artists who are starting out or like to experiment a lot. The 10x14 pad size is my favourite for convenience but obviously you can get it in other sizesSo why only 4 stars? Well in pad form it is a little pricey I think - though if you need/want the convenience of a pad the price is very typical. Jacksons do full sheets of Bockingford cut to 1/4 size (c15x11) for a lot less money per sheet or you can pay a similar amount per 15x11 sheet and get Saunders Waterford 100% Rag paper loose for a similar price to this pad

Nothing wrong with the pad, but I wanted a block not a pad. I only realised I'd ordered incorrectly when I received it. It will cost too much to send back and pay the reorder postage so I'll have to be more careful when ordering in future as the pads all look alike on the website and that's why I only gave int "Good".

Very good service, communication and prompt delivery. Only reason that you don't get excellent, is that a few of the Winsor and Newton paint tubes seemed to have been squashed and the colour gushed out on opening.
