Ferric Chloride solution is a corrosive salt for etching.Now widely recognised as the safest and best perfoming etchant for copper plate, especially when used in conjunction with citric acid to make 'Edinburgh Etch' (© F.K. 1997). Ferric chloride can be used in vertical etching tanks as pioneered by Kieth Howard or in flat trays, image side up, if made into Edinburgh Etch.
