School etching press very good. I got very good results. Used an old school formica table top laid it on waist high chest of draws and fixed press to table top only, using L shaped brackets two screws to hold bracket to table top and one bolt & nut & washer onto press and bracket. < off set corners > No movement running bed through and once I got used to length of bed was ok. I used rivets of my own as stoppers for each end of bed. Reason for this was so I could file flat top of rivet. Press comes supplied with stoppers but decided to do my own thing.I have run through press thick hard plastic plates, thin collegraph plates and soft plastic wallet type material all worked well and very pleased with machine overall. Great product for the price with a solid feel to it. Does what it says. Would benefit from fixing to a table (for example a single kitchen unit from Ikea with a thick wooden worktop, steel legs and wheels) (Posted on 30/03/2016)

Nobody becomes a printmaker because they want an easy life. This little press will do what it says, but it also has its little quirks. It's great as a proofing press. It would be harder to edition prints because you pretty much have to raise and lower the bar between each print (due to slippage of the plates on the bed surface). I have created a measuring system on both sides to make sure the pressing bar is level - and can be lowered to the exact height as the previous print. Printmaking is always about finding solutions. However, for the price, I have been able to produce drypoint and collograph prints from this and have been satisfied with the results. I wouldn't however recommend it for a beginner because I think the quirks might put you off printmaking. (Posted on 30/03/2016)

Good piece of equipment - A bit of attention needs to be given to the base design to make it simpler to attach it to a base. Fortunately I am able to design and make a set of brackets to clip through the four holes and attach the press to a wooden table top. Geoffrey Bradford (Posted on 30/03/2016)

The little FOAME roller printing press is absolutely fantastic. Small, portable and works like a dream.......but it does need to be anchored to a stable surface. The fixing points are a bit awkward, I didn't want to hinder the inside space as I leave the base plate stored flat under there. I have the press on top of a wooden book case, I screwed a screw into the wood just outside of each corner of the machine leaving about an inch of screw showing then simply attached a cable tie through each fixing hole round the screw top and pulled tightly to secure. Works perfectly, my press stays put without so much as a wobble. Love it. (Posted on 30/03/2016)

When I first tried out this press, I found it very frustrating. The roller slipped at the bottom, and the paper slipped. I haven't a work bench so instead of clamping down the press I decided to fix the press to some ply. This was quite a feat as the press doesn't have any fixing brackets, just 4 oval holes on the side. So I took the press to B&Q where the very nice man suggested using small ""L"" shaped brackets with nuts, bolts and washers (washers so the bolts didn't go straight through the oval holes). This worked perfectly. Now my press is heavier and more solid - much, much better.I find that the best way to set it up is to check with a ruler that both tighteners are even, then tighten equally on both sides. I use a blank, clean plate with a piece of paper on top to set the height. It needs to be as tight as possible, but slack enough to turn the handle! You'll have to work that out. When printing, I press down hard on the paper/plate with one hand and turn the handle with the other, this way the print doesn't slip. As soon as the roller has reached on top of the plate you can take your pressure off as it won't go anywhere. Another thing to remember is to set the plate/paper so that they are easily removed. Basically place print as close to the roller s possible, if you go to far to the edge of the bed it can get stuck - again, you'll know what I mean when you do it.All in all I am very pleased with my press! It's very exciting to be able to make prints at home :-)I think FOME should either attach a base to the press or make it easy to attach one by adding some bracket points/feet. (Posted on 20/08/2015)
