Info
Fine plaster can be perfect for casting, moulding and sculpting to create delicate and unusual effects. It is light in weight and can be carved into once dry as well as accurately picking up textures and detail.
This is a 2kg bag of Jackson's Plaster of Paris.
It is fine and soft so that it can pick up fine details when making a plaster mould of something, as differentiated from casts and sculpting where the final object is the plaster so it would need to be stronger.
- How to use:
- Quick instructions: Mix powder into water at a ratio of 100:70, Plaster to Water . Dries to a soft, fragile finish after 20-25 minutes. Do not touch while setting.
- Weigh out your plaster powder into a vessel, break up any lumps so it’s a consistent powder.
- Measure out the correct ratio of water. Use a container that will hold three times the volume of the loose plaster.
- Gently sprinkle the plaster into the water allowing it to sink and letting it soak for a few minutes.
- Slowly mix the two together using strokes that don’t create air bubbles (do not beat).
- The mix should have an even consistency with no bubbles or swelling and no free water. Use light tapping to get any air bubbles to rise to the surface.
- Let the mixture stand for a minute and gently pour it if making a solid piece.
- The plaster can become quite warm during the setting period. It is safe to remove the cast after 2x the setting time so around 40 minutes later for this plaster.
Please note: do not dispose of Plaster of Paris or clean tools you’ve used with it using a sink or drain. Additionally, never pour liquid or molten material into setting plaster until it’s completely dry as otherwise it could explode.
