Jackson's 0.9mm polished copper plate for etching. The polished surface is protected with a plastic film so simply requires degreasing before applying ground.
The back of each plate will require the application of an acid resistant stop out. Copper is a harder metal than zinc and plates and will withstand a greater number of prints being taken. It is also ideally suited to non-etching intaglio techniques such as drypoint, engraving and mezzotint.

The cost of printmaking tools and materials can add up, especially when you want to use copper etching plates in larger sizes. I discovered Jackson's Polished Copper Etching Plates when I was a printmaking student and found them to be more affordable than any other brands while also being excellent quality.Rating
Copper Etching Plates are the traditional choice for drypoint and etching techniques because they produce a fine line and are ideal for aquatint. In my work, I build up images using fine lines and detailed marks by drawing through hard ground before etching the exposed plate. I also use drypoint and aquatint, which these plates are ideal for. Because the copper is so durable, it also means that I can print large editions from each plate.
The plates are protected by a plastic film which is removed before degreasing with vinegar and whiting or calcium carbonate. They don’t need polishing, unlike zinc, so that also saves me time in the print studio. I've also noticed that each time I've received my parcel, they've been well packaged, meaning the plates arrive in perfect condition. I highly recommend these copper plates! (Posted on 25/10/2023)
