Jackson's Academy Wooden Panels are made of an ultra smooth, sanded light plywood, reinforced on the reverse with bracing to prevent warping. The beautiful un-sized wooden surface is ready to paint on with water and acrylic based paint, or can be sized or primed for use with oil paint. Sturdy yet lightweight, they are perfect for both painting projects out of doors as well as in the studio. We recommend priming with 3 layers of acrylic gesso and sanding between layers to produce a smooth yet slightly absorbent surface on which to apply both impasto marks and delicate washes.

Can also be used for encaustic painting, or as a work support / drawing board.

Available in 20mm (approx. 3/4") and 50mm (approx. 2") deep profiles, in a wide range of sizes.

To prevent swelling of the veneer do not saturate with water until the surface has been sealed. If applying acrylic gesso primer do not thin with water. Some artists have found it helpful to seal the surface first with Lascaux Hydro Sealer.

As a realist painter I need a perfect surface to work with and the wooden panels always come beautifully smooth and tactile all I could ask for, I just give a quick sand and a few coats of primer and I am happy. (Posted on 16/03/2017)

I rang and complained about one that was bashed on the corner which was promptly replaced but although the others had not been dropped they had small ridges. One had quite a bulge which I hadn't noticed till I put paint on and felt I could not have replaced, but all in all very poor quality. (Posted on 16/03/2017)
