Jackson's Academy Wooden Panels are made of an ultra smooth, sanded light plywood, reinforced on the reverse with bracing to prevent warping. The beautiful un-sized wooden surface is ready to paint on with water and acrylic based paint, or can be sized or primed for use with oil paint. Sturdy yet lightweight, they are perfect for both painting projects out of doors as well as in the studio. We recommend priming with 3 layers of acrylic gesso and sanding between layers to produce a smooth yet slightly absorbent surface on which to apply both impasto marks and delicate washes.

Can also be used for encaustic painting, or as a work support / drawing board.

Available in 20mm (approx. 3/4") and 50mm (approx. 2") deep profiles, in a wide range of sizes.

To prevent swelling of the veneer do not saturate with water until the surface has been sealed. If applying acrylic gesso primer do not thin with water. Some artists have found it helpful to seal the surface first with Lascaux Hydro Sealer.

Quite happy except for one thing. One of the corners on both boards is slightly rounded instead of being a perfect 90 degrees like the others. I'll be ordering more soon but it'd be great if that imperfection could be fixed (Posted on 16/03/2017)

quality seems excellent, and good value, saving much time and effort-much better than my own carpentry efforts! (Posted on 16/03/2017)

your wooden panels are the only surface I use for still life work.I paint in very realistic style and with three coats of gesso primer, sanded between coats,I get the finished surface I require.the perfect surface for me.Brilliant Jacksons. (Posted on 25/02/2016)
