Jacquard Colourless Water-Based Resist is designed to act as a substitute for traditional Gutta in silk painting, and can also be used as a resist in block and screen printing.
In silk painting, the traditional Gutta Serti method involves drawing outlines with a resist, usually a latex-based substance called Gutta, to create enclosed areas (Serti meaning 'fence' or 'border'). These enclosed pockets prevent dye from spreading beyond the outlines, allowing the artist to paint controlled areas of colour within the design.
Jaquard have developed an easy to use and remove water-based alternative to traditional Gutta. It holds a crisp line, does not pucker when dry, and easily washes out with warm water. Once removed, it will reveal the white or base colour of the original silk.
Jacquard Colourless Water-Based Resist will seperate in the bottle so needs thorough mixing before use. It is organic in nature so has a shelf life and is best stored in cool conditions. It is odourless, alcohol-free, and non-toxic.
