Stillman & Birn : Gamma Sketchbook 9 x 6in Hardbound 150gsm - Ivory Vellum

For all dry media and multiple washes.

Paper shade: Ivory.
Surface: Vellum.
Sheet count: 62 sheets/124 pages.

With both internal and surface sizing, these papers have exceptional wet strength that supports the application of multiple washes. Similarly, just as the paper's sizing retards water absorption, pigment stays on the surface of the sheet. The result: remarkably glowing colour.
Stillman & Birn bindings are equally rugged. The hardbound bindings - stiff when new - are designed to be broken in. The spines get eased in and then lay completely flat, accomodating both two-page drawing layouts and flatbed scanning.

Bound in the United States, this sketchbook system offers artists a choice of three paper surfaces:

• Vellum – distinctive tooth, suitable for all dry media, and will also accept multiple washes
• Cold Press – Substantial tooth, enhanced wet and tear strength, suitable for multi-media artwork
• Smooth – Suitable for pen & ink, coloured pencils, water-based markers as well as watercolours

Probably the best sketchbooks ever. Excellent paper, a pleasure to draw and paint even with occasional heavy waterclor washes. Cannot work without them!! (Posted on 02/09/2015)

Had a few before like these books, don't expect really thick paper, but it's resilient, can take washes with nice effects. Can also take charcoal nicely. (Posted on 02/09/2015)

Very expensive sketchbook but worth every penny to me. Top quality in all respects. I have used pencil, charcoal, ink, colour pencil different brands, and watercolour. Any slight buckling from very wet applications have smoothed out well when the book is closed.I like the paper will also handle very fine pen without any bleeding, which has been a problem with several other sketch books. I made the decision to try a Stillman and Birn sketchbook after hearing good reports because the Hahnemulle sketchbook I was using bled ink when applied and also would not take Derwent Artists colour pencils very well at all. Very pleased with this product. (Posted on 20/08/2015)

My order was incomplete, with absolutely no explanation as to why that was the case (Posted on 04/03/2015)
