The story of Essdee began during World War II when Stanley Dixon, a Sheffield-based commercial artist, formulated his own Scraperboard after supply disruptions from Austria. The result was a top quality Scraperboard, essential for newspaper illustration, that gained immense popularity among professional artists.
Dixon’s initials lent the brand its name, Essdee, and his innovation became the foundation for a company that would continue to grow its Scraperboard and printmaking tools to professionals around the world.
