Q. Will this case hold Sennelier, Schmincke or other brand soft pastels?

A. This case is designed for use with Jackson's Handmade Soft Pastels and can also be used with Unison Soft Pastels. Other brands of pastels like Sennelier, Schmincke or Rembrandt are too long to fit into the slots.

I have been unable to work out how to open this case unless it only contains unsed pastels of the specifieid brands - used pastels or pieces of pastel simply fall out on opening as noted by a previous reviewer . I have modified it by adding sheets of 3mm MDF cut to cover the foam holding the pastels and sticking scrap pieces of foam to the board to match the holes (easier than it sounds) to hold pastels in place and securing the boards in place with broad elasticated tapes. One of these boards can be slid along the back of the case if leaving the elasticated tape in place when open to prevent it folding up when it is placed on my knees. I also tape some peices of pastel paper (+glassine paper) onto one board and use the other board as the backing board). This all increases the weight and bulk but allows me to use pastels of any size - including pieces (I have about 70 pieces in my case) - as long as I am careful how I open the case. It does give good protecton but is quite bulky even before modifying (Posted on 12/03/2019)

The advantage of the case is that it is very lightweight.
The disadvantage is that it is not suitable if you want to combine several pieces of different pastel sticks in one cell - they simply will fall out when you fold the box. (Posted on 05/07/2017)
