AV Artist Acrylic Fluid Colours are made of a range of fine artist pigments suspended in a 100% acrylic emulsion. The viscosity of each colour depends on the pigment used, but is in the range of 1,000 to 2,000 cPs, a consistency like that of heavy cream. This renders them suitable for a variety of painting techniques, including pouring, splashing, glazing, shading or washes. They can be thinned and used in an Airbrush, or thickened with mediums, texture additives and gels.

Like all AV Artist Acrylics, these colours are highly lightfast and exhibit a minimal colour shift from wet to dry. Once dry they are waterproof, UV-resistant and will not yellow over time. Because they contain no additives, the overall finish of each colour when dry depends on the nature of the pigment: some will be more glossy, some more matt; some will be opaque and some translucent.

I've been using Vallejo fluid acrylic paints for approximately 2 years now and I'm very pleased with them. My introduction to Vallejo came after using another leading brands range of fluid acrylics, which after having used £1 - £3 tubes of acrylic paint bought from a hardware store was such a wonderful experience. Unfortunately, at the time the price range for that brand was a little out of my comfort zone so, I went over to google to find a cheaper alternative.

After a few searches couples with some research into pigments, I discovered that there was thankfully one other brand and I've been using them ever since. Oddly, I also really enjoy the smell of them. They have exceptional performance and remain stable even when using more than recommended amounts of water. Their range of colours isn't as extensive as other brands but I find that the range they do offer is perfect ( would like to see burnt umber) but whether you're blocking in large areas, glazing, or doing fine detailed work I find that they work a charm. I also combine them with heavy body acrylics from Vallejo, some of Jackson's range and haven't found any problems in doing so.

My only concern is that they currently only offer small 100ml tubes which I find isn't environmentally friendly due to the excess of waste. I'd like to see Vallejo offer perhaps 250ml tubes of more expensive pigments, 500ml of mid-value pigments and up to 1ltr bottles of whites and blacks.

Overall, if you're looking for a cheaper alternative to some of the leading brands but still want a high performing and professional quality paint the Vallejo fluid acrylics are a great choice. I also recommend buying their Fluid matte medium they go together like bum and chair.
