Info

Made to the exact same standards and formulas as the best professional artist watercolours available today, Jackson's Artist Watercolours are as good as any leading brand watercolour but at a fraction of the price.

They are made from premium Sudanese Kordofan gum arabic, honey, purified water and fine artist pigments. These ingredients are blended together and slowly ground into a fine paste, until the pigment particles are dispersed evenly. This allows for a flawlessly uniform wash.

Good colour and consistency. Easily rewets in the palette. The problem I have with all of Jackson’s tubes of watercolour is that they leak excessively each time they’re opened - this results in very sticky tubes and subsequent difficulty in closing the tops.

Beautiful, warm colour. I’m pleased with the quality and use it in a variety of ways.

Good overall but does have a tendency to separate (from what I assume is the honey) when squeezing the tube into a palette. I didn’t have this issue with the Naples yellow, so this may have been a one off issue with this particular tube.

I was given one free with my order. I liked it so much I ordered another one. Very nice flow reminds me on Sennelier paints. Will buy again

Lovely colour and, like all of Jackson's paints, it rewets very easily.

This is quite nice. Very close in hue to many PR179, a drying blood colour, good alternative to transparent PR101, mixes well, good darks with PG7 and turquoises. I'll be evaluating in comparison with burnt siennas, PR101, PR179. The paint handles well, rewets easily. Like it.

A very nice ultramarine, good dilute for skies, mixes well with other colours. Probably the most useful general purpose PB29 I've found. The DS French ultramarine is more intense but I don't often want that; Ken Bromley's is more granulating which is a two edged sword.

Love this paint. Has all the qualities a good cobalt must have. Not so deep mid blue, granulates like hell, separates in mixes. Excellent price.

Have grown to love this Jackson's Burnt Sienna... but it was different from what I was used to, particularly how it looked on the palette. But it is strong and vibrant with some visible granulation - this makes for characterful effects on paper and mixes great darks. Have just started using it with Neutral tint for amazing range of browns.

I love this Ultramarine deep from Jackson's and prefer it over WN in colour, performance and handling. It has slightly less red bias I think so mixes better greens and to my mind looks better in sky washes too. I have found this a more versatile Ultramarine and so juicy to paint with, probably due to the honey base - It's always ready to go even if you let it set up in a palette.

I added the colour to the Jacksons set of six watercolour tubes as I felt the lack of a cool red. It is a very vivid slightly purple magenta that mixes really well to make a range of colours. I am very pleased with it and the tube has been big enough to add this colour to other palettes that have benefitted from it. Lovely quality and a nice purchase.

Nice colour but of course not the original quinacrine gold PO49; it's a hue made from a mix of quinacridone burnt orange PO48 and a yellow, so the tint is not as pure. Still worth having.

I have only tested two colors, quinacridone red orange and paynes grey but both of them are gorgeous, I already own daniel smith paynes grey, which I hate because dries like plastic and shiny, and sennelier which is good but a little dull, this one is superb, really pigmented and more transparent than the others I have, 5 stars, I want more colors now :(

This is a fantastic paint. I compared it with Genuine Carmine and it is incredibly convincing; I made a swatch of each, and when I asked people if they see if they could tell the difference between Carmine and Genuine Carmine, I'd often hear, "Ok, and where's the other one?" and had to explain that the two swatches were actually different paints. Obviously they could not tell the difference. I also tested the lightfastness for about half a year and saw no fading at all, so it is very reliable. I've really fallen in love with this brand and would recommend it without hesitation.

Jacksons burnt sienna is made from more than one pigment and they separate quickly on the paper. I have found the jacksons watercolours that I have bought to be generally inferior to other makes that I have tried over the years. They should be labelled as STUDENT quality not 'artist'. Can't recommend.

One of many Jackson's watercolour tubes I've bought, it mixes well with French Ultramarine to make a nice dark. Good value and if not in the top 5%, certainly in the top 30% of the quality list.

This is a splendid, intense orange yellow. My tube was more or orange than the screen colour indicated, at least to my eye. This would make a good secondary yellow for a split primary palette.

I tried this colour out in the 50p 5ml sample pack and it was simply stunning. I really wasn't expecting much because of the comparatively cheap price, but it was easily up to par with (if not better than!) my Winsor and Newton paints. It is incredibly bright and pigmented and flows wonderfully, and doesn't fall out of mix with other colours as my Daniel Smith Ultramarine & French Ultramarine blues have a tendency to do. It also rewets very well which is a 'must' for me as I always decant my paints into pans to dry before use. I have yet to try out any of the other paints in the range but as soon as I need any more I will certainly will, and I can definitely recommend French Ultramarine Blue.

I am glad to have been introduced to Jackson's Watercolour 21ml tubes and have a growing selection. This one I fear is, although a 'nice colour', not my idea of a Burnt Umber, being far too 'reddy' and pale. On this one occasion the WN version is far better .....sorry !

This is easily the most beautiful cobalt blue I have ever used. At last a real blue that does not lean to violet or green. The watercolour paint is rich and can take dilution. If you want to cover a full imperial with a strong wash of cobalt blue this is the one. I still cannot believe it!Ralph Bendelow
